System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 is a compliance standard developed by the Auditing Standards Board of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) to ensure appropriate and secure handling of customer data. It verifies whether a company has organizational controls and policies, and checks whether those protocols are being followed. It reviews five key areas: security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy.
