Recently while reading Supply & Demand Chain Executive, one of the primary sources for industry news, we came across an interesting article that looks at the essential things for organizations to consider when moving towards the cloud. Contributed by Stan Klimoff, the director of cloud services for Grid Dynamics, a provider of scalable engineering and enterprise cloud solutions, the article shares some valuable insights on the adoption of cloud technology, including identifying the business processes that will benefit from the cloud, the data that is touched by each IT process and the value of having a trusted partner.

One of Klimoff's most resonant points was the assertion that when identifying business processes that can benefit from using the cloud, it is important to remember the reasons for moving to the cloud, which include:

  • Cost: for the workloads where volume of processing varies significantly from month to month or even day by day, switching to a pay-as-you-go model can provide significant cost savings over the TCO of an in-house infrastructure.
  • Business agility: most of the cloud offerings provide a great degree of automation, greatly improving turnaround time of IT-related processes.
