Healthcare provider cures its paper problems.
Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa, located in Mason City, IA is saving well over $100,000 per year by archiving reports generated by host computers, documents produced on personal computers and imaging files on an integrated electronic report management (ERM) system.
The hospital has greatly reduced the expenses of microfilming, printing and distributing these documents while reducing the time required for accessing them to just a few seconds. These savings figures do not include benefits that are harder to quantify such as faster access to reports and medical records and a reduced need for storage space.
The system is capable of storing and delivering virtually every document generated in the hospital including patient's bills, lab test results, invoices from vendors, patient charts, doctors' transcripts, financial reports, and many others. Using a single system to manage all of these types of documents substantially reduced the cost of purchasing, installing and maintaining the software, as well as user training requirements.
"Some of the other vendors' programs weren't so tightly linked; and if you wanted to search for something, you'd have to search the COLD database and the imaging database separately."
